John Denham MP, Chair of the Home Affairs Committee, and Sadiq Khan MP,
elected for Tooting in May 2005, who are both members of the Fabian
Executive, are leading a Fabian project which seeks to make a
significant intervention into the debate about British Muslim
citizenship and integration.Developing the Fabian Society's
contributions to the Britishness debate, this project seeks to set out
a 'next decade' vision for the future of citizenship and integration
policy: the focus will be on identifying the role which government
needs to play to enable this, so as to create a roadmap for future
government strategy in this area, therefore placing issues facing
British Muslim communities in the broader context of future citizenship
policy. The project is addressing several significant areas of policy
and politics, including life chances and inequality; around citizenship
and democratic engagement; the role of foreign policy; and security and
political extremism, with the authors taking part in a number of
project seminars examining current research and policy in this area
from a range of relevant sources. Hannah Jameson, Editorial Manager, is co-ordinating the project. The project is kindly supported by the Barrow Cadbury Trust.
