| What Does the Public Really Think About Fairness? |
|
Monday 22nd of June 2009, 6-8pm, Work Foundation The Fabian Society held a panel discussion to launch two new reports supported by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation: Tackling Economic Inequality - an exploration of the underlying ‘drivers’ of public attitudes towards economic inequality by the Fabian Society; and Political Debate about Economic Inequality by ippr.
The research from the Fabian Society identifies what motivates the public’s beliefs and attitudes towards inequality. The work also considers measures the public supports to promote fairness and what conditions are needed to tap into this support. This goes beyond previous work which has tended to focus on revealing attitudes rather than explaining them and considering their implications. Both reports were presented at the event and hardcopies were available for attendees. Panellists included Tim Horton, Fabian Society, Kate Green, Child Poverty Action Group, Andrew Haldenby, Reform, Lisa Harker, ippr and Steve Richards, Guardian. |
