The Fabian Society held a panel discussion to launch two new reports supported by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation: Tackling Economic Inequality - an exploration of the underlying ‘drivers’ of public attitudes towards economic inequality by the Fabian Society; and Political Debate about Economic Inequality by ippr.

The research from the Fabian Society identifies what motivates the public’s beliefs and attitudes towards inequality. The work also considers measures the public supports to promote fairness and what conditions are needed to tap into this support. This goes beyond previous work which has tended to focus on revealing attitudes rather than explaining them and considering their implications.

In conjunction with this and in the context of the current financial turmoil the ippr’s report compares how inequality is discussed by  five major political parties.

Both reports were presented at the event and hardcopies were available for attendees.
