Following the successful seminar in Birmingham examining the results of the Fabian Understanding Attitudes to Tackling Economic Inequality and ippr project Political Debate about Economic Inequality, the roadshow continues. We've just returned from Manchester where Sir Richard Leese CBE, leader of Manchester City Council, discussed the findings of the report and what it might means for reducing inequalities in the UK. Previous events were held in Cardiff, where Rhodri Morgan MP joined Martin Mansfield, TUC Wales general Secretary and Sunder Katwala, and Birmingham, where the main speaker was Evan Harris MP. These publications have been supported by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation. The Fabian research explains the drivers of public attitudes towards inequality and looks at their implications. Ippr investigated the way inequality is represented in five major political parties. This research is part of the the Fabian's wider Understanding Attitudes to Tackling Economic Inequality project which explored the underlying 'drivers' of public attitudes towards welfare policy. The project was supported by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation. |
